Identify which metal you are estimating
Select gold, silver or platinum and the matching purity. Enter the weight of that metal portion in grams or troy ounces. Choose the currency and enter its pure-metal rate per gram. Changing metal or currency clears the rate; no automatic currency conversion is performed. The tool does not identify an unknown material or separate a mixed-metal item. If the piece includes stones, clasps of another metal or other components, an accurate metal weight may require professional assessment.
Understand purity fractions
For a gold carat selection, the tool uses carats divided by 24. Silver, platinum and custom fineness selections use parts per 1,000. Use custom fineness if your actual stated alloy, such as 585 gold, differs from a nominal carat fraction. A hypothetical 10 g silver portion at 925 fineness contains 9.25 g of pure-silver content. At an example pure-silver rate of £1 per gram, the calculation gives £9.25. Those inputs illustrate arithmetic and are not a live valuation.
Match the rate to the formula
Use the rate for the pure metal selected. A rate already adjusted for a lower purity would be adjusted again by this calculator. Check both units and currency before entering a figure. Changing metal or purity is a different assumption, not evidence that the physical jewellery itself has changed value.
Read the output as one component
Jewellery value can involve stones, craftsmanship, brand, condition, history and a particular market. This calculator estimates only the entered metal content and excludes those factors. It does not supply a resale offer or insurance appraisal. Copy the result with its weight, rate and purity, and keep those assumptions attached whenever you compare examples. A plated item's total weight should not be treated as if the coating's purity applied throughout.
